Run no7 - 3.3 miles

Lovely sunny evening but quite a strong, cooling wind. First 2 miles were fairly comfortable though running into the strong wind made things a tad tough. Realised 3/4 of the way round I'd probably ran it a bit too fast. Got home in 31 mins exactly which was almost 30 secs faster per mile. Averaging 9.17 mins per mile which after under 2 weeks I'm happy with. Got a 5 miler on Sat which should be fun. Running with Tommy so that'll be a nice bit of company.

  1. Heart rate slightly down, speed slightly up. Jobs a good un :-)

Still remember to try to keep it slow though. Enjoy your 5 miler.

  2. Cheers Dave.

I am right in thinking the 'keeping it slow' thing is to really get me into a pace I'm familiar with that'll get me round he 26 miles?

My mate Tommy unfortunately never signed up in time for Loch Ness but am I right in thinking it's similar to the London one (on a smaller scale where there's always people around you?

  3. That is partly right. There is no real point in running 7 min miles for a 3 miler if you are not going to run this speed in the marathon.
However, the real reason is that you are "base training" at the moment - getting the miles in, allowing your body to get used to running and getting fit. Running faster will not really benefit this but may increase the likelihood of getting injured (as you are increasing mileage).

Don't worry about it though. There are 21 weeks until the marathon. Plenty of time later to speed up and do some faster runs. It will come!

You will always have someone to blether with during LNM. It is a pretty friendly race.

  4. I can concur with Dave about Loch Ness - there are plenty of runners around, so you'll probably never be on your own. Unlike London, you're out of the town for most of it, so expect great scenery but don't expect cheering crowds along the whole route, just in the villages and in a few other places where the charities set up little supporter groups. And for the last bit when you get into the town.

  5. Thats good to hear, I'd visions of being totally knackered, 12 miles from home and no-one about to keep me moving
